Keyless Access

Keyless Access

Keyless Access is the automatic locking and starting system from Volkswagen. It offers the driver maximum convenience as the key has to be carried on the driver’s person, but not necessarily in the hand. The crucial components of Keyless Access are the ID sender in the vehicle key, the electronic ignition lock, the starter button, the control unit, the electric steering column lock and aerials and sensors in the door handles which are touch-sensitive. The key is identified via proximity sensors in the door handles and a radio pulse generator in the key housing as soon as the driver is within approximately 1.50 metres of the vehicle. The vehicle is automatically unlocked as soon as the door handle (or boot lid) is actuated. The Keyless Access system also means that, before the start of a journey, the steering is released and the ignition turned on electronically and without inserting the key in the ignition. Provided the driver has the key on his or her person while inside the car, the engine can be started simply by pressing the starter button. However, the car key can also be used like a conventional key to operate the central locking and to start the vehicle via the ignition lock. When leaving the vehicle, it merely suffices to press the small locking button on the door handles in order to lock the vehicle.
